We are knee deep in the holiday season, and all the festivities that it brings. My holiday season is never complete until I hear all of the tunes that remind me of my childhood. My mother was very traditional for the holidays in the sense that she went all out for everything from decorations to family dinner.

While she was hard at work doing all of her prep work to ensure that my sister and I had the best holidays ever, there was always a signature soundtrack playing in the background. My mother played classic, soulful holiday tunes that featured Donny Hathaway, The Temptations, and The Jackson 5 just to name a few. My memories of her flipping the twelve-inch vinyl to the B-Side is so vivid, and vibrant!

It is those very memories that have translated into what has become my very own soundtrack for the holiday season. I have added a few new tunes here and there, but the foundation consists of staples from my childhood. I find solace in having my childhood memories as the backdrop for my holiday experiences as an adult. I can only hope that I will be able to provide such rich memories for my very own children one day in the future.

It is 2014 so I will not be flipping the twelve-inch vinyl. However I will crank up the playlist on the Bluetooth speaker, and side step all throughout the houseJ So, checkout My Christmas Playlist, and feel free to share your thoughts and recommendations!

Tis The Season: 2014 Holiday Wish List

Now singing…. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I mean it is the season of both giving & receiving! I love all things related to the holiday season from the food to the festivities. However the part that has always been near and dear to my heart is PRESENTS. I love, love, love presents!! Seriously who doesn’t like presents? You find that person, tie them down, and give them a big presentJ

Not only do I appreciate the spirit of giving, I equally appreciate receiving. So with that being said here are the presents that top my 2014 Holiday Wish List. I covered all grounds from cosmetics, to apparel, to electronics. I left no stone unturned for the things I want and NEED this holiday season.

I got a head start on giving and receiving several of the items my damn self! Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza, Happy Hanukkah, and any other holiday celebrated this time of year.......to SHREEN. There is still time to grab a few more of the items on the list, and have them shipped or hand delivered to me before December 25thwink wink!!

Fall Into It: Rich Lip Tones & Textures

The temperatures have dropped, the leaves have fallen, and all things autumn have arrived. I am totally a lipstick kind of gal, as I am a firm believer that a good lip can transform you from subpar to superb in seconds. So, it is no coincidence that I am totally here for everything rich and textured when it comes to my fall lip selections.

I recently hit the local MAC counter and picked up a few new lipsticks. I was impressed with the vast selection available for Fall/Winter 2015. MAC had all grounds covered from deep plums, to rich berries, and warm chocolates. The textures varied as well from mattes to satin finishes.

I have a love/hate relationship with options. I love the fact that I have so many choices, but I hate the fact that I have so many choices. The end result is that I want them all, and my OCD issues related to shopping take center stage. ***My shopping issues deserve a blog post of their own, along with a couple hours on a therapist’s couch*** Fortunately my cooler & rational head prevailed during my most recent shopping trip, and I walked away with only a handful of products. My purchases are outlined in the picture above.

I have been having a blast over the past few weeks experimenting with all my new lipsticks, along with mixing & matching day and evening looks. Who says deep tones are reserved for a night on the town? Well I give an entire side-eye to that girl! I told you that 30 has me out here feeling my entire self, and that includes wearing whatever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want. I Shreen Shuffle to the beat of my own drum, and I must admit that my shimmy is an entire problem! You all should try it sometimes, it is so liberating, I promise.

Quick Tip-The Fall/Winter months can be harsh on your skin, specifically your lips. Counter the cold weather with constant exfoliation and hydration.  Finally get the most out of any lip color by dabbing a bit of flesh tone concealer on your lips. This provides a neutral canvas for your lip color, and gives you the most pigmented result.

A Toast To The Most: 30 Is The New 30

You get a 30, you get a 30, and you get a 30 (Oprah Voice). This is literally what I have heard for the past eleven months. It feels as if everyone I know, and then some have reached this pivotal milestone at some point during the 2014 calendar year.

I will be honest with you, and let you know that I was dreading every bit of turning 30. Hell anyone who knows me knows that I have turned 21 for the past eight years…I kid you not. I know, I know, the saying goes “you get better with time, just like fine wine.” To heck with that…all I could think of was the downward spiral that would become my life once the clock struck 12AM on May 12th.

Let’s be honest here, everything is supposed to change at 30. The years start falling off like a Wal-Mart Rollback sale, the law of gravity kicks in…***everything that goes up, must come down*** if you get my drift, and hell life just changes!!!

Sam Cooke sure did have it right when he said A Change Was Gone Come. The clock did strike at 12AM on May 12th, and just like that life as I had come to know it was gone. Do not cry for me Argentina!!! Life has become so more invigorating, transparent, and AMAZING. My sister told me that it was just something about 30, because life just changes without any explanation whatsoever. She was right, once again….hell she is always right:/

Anyhow I do know that I love the ME that I have become, and continue to become since May of this year, and I am looking forward to the years ahead. I am walking around town with my Shreen 2.0 cape on, and it is EVERYTHING. I leave out the house every morning knowing that regardless of what life throws my way, I have the ability to get through it all while still looking and feeling fabulous. That my friends is nothing but them thirties!

I say all this to say that I was beyond blessed to experience all of life’s trials, tribulations, and triumphs for twenty-nine years. All of those things prepared me, and molded me into who I am today. Those life experiences were the setup for my getup. 30 is the new 30, grab a glass of something, and LIVE #itsacelebrationsnitches
