Warfare: Protect Your Energy Sis!

Stop expending your energy on FOOLISHNESS. Understand that you have absolutely no control of the situation or circumstance, only your reaction to the same. It’s gonna be what it’s gonna be. PERIOD!

They tap dancing on your last nerve down at your job? F them and their Mama! Guru Up and work on that Plan B without wearing yourself thin in the process. It’s a job, and if your name isn’t on the front door, tough shit for them. You are disposable, and replaceable. So, be cognizant of that when you are working late, coming in early, and dealing with flat out bullshit. You are ONE person. If they don’t like it they can hire additional help, or do it their damn selves!

The guy you’re dating continues to demonstrate "F Boy" behaviors? Let that dude, his child like behaviors and his receding hairline go. Do better for yourself Sis! You don’t need that type of negative energy in your life, and he damn sure ain’t worthy of your energy. He can get right, or get left. It’s that simple. Know you worth, add tax, and better yourself while you await the MAN that will treat you in the manner that you deserve.

Girlfriend being anything but a friend? Cut her ass right off! Toxicity depletes your energy, and literally sucks the life out of you. If all you have between you and said girlfriend is time served, move on. Demand that your friendships feed your soul, invigorate your spirit, encourage your endeavors, soothe your worries, and bless your life. Anything short of those things is unacceptable. Yes, the older you get the more difficult it becomes to build substantive friendships. So what...you’ll manage, and free up your cypher so that you can receive new energy, and new friendships.

Being everything to everybody. Stop that shit immediately! Family is notorious for demanding you be all things at all times. It’s impossible, it’s unhealthy, and it’s counterproductive to the practice of protecting your energy. A quick fix for this behavior is to simply say NO. I didn’t realize the joy and fulfillment that came along with saying NO until I started implementing it in my life. It rolls off of my tongue so effortlessly now, because I understand the value of my time and peace. I’m not killing myself to meet or exceed demanding, unrealistic, and selfish expectations of others. NO you cannot borrow money, NO I cannot co-sign a loan, NO I cannot buy your kid ridiculously overpriced designer goods, NO I cannot host you at my home every holiday and send you off with 10 Tupperware containers of food, NO I cannot sell your kid’s Girl Scout Cookies at my office, NO I cannot revise your resume for free, NO I cannot do your daughter’s prom makeup, and NO I don’t have to explain myself when I cut you off!

It’s 2018, YOU have to prioritize your life, and make YOU #1. If YOU aren’t 100, nothing else matters. Work hard to make YOU, your needs, wants, desires, peace, happiness, health, and heart first in all that you do. This isn’t selfishness, this is intelligence. At the end of the day all the other stuff is irrelevant if you and your house of cards are out of order. My newest mantra in 2018 is: If it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t give it 5 minutes now! I promise this has been working miracles in my life as of late.

I’m sending you all love, positive energy, and good vibes. Receive it, and hold on to it tight. Get out there and start working on your self-lovery, priorities, and protect your energy by any means necessary.

Skincare 101: Come Thru Glow

I promised you guys a few weeks ago that I would post about my current skincare routine for my face. Healthy skin is a priority for me after approximately two years of fighting Adult Acne. Two long years of dermatology appointments, trial & error with harsh prescription grade creams, ointments and pills, and god awful skin!

It was not until I implemented a sound daily regimen with the right products, and overhauled my diet that my skin condition improved. The current state of my skin is immaculate, and I am doing my damnedest to keep it that way. I get compliments on my skin daily, and I am constantly asked about my regimen. Well...here it is....

Rest

Proper sleep habits are necessary when it comes to healthy skin. When you lack proper rest, it literally shows all over your face! From bags and dark circles under your eyes, to blotches and uneven skin tone. These are all residuals of insufficient rest.

Refresh

Our skin endures the effects of cosmetics, environmental elements, and food consumption day in, and day out.  This daily wear and tear leads to enlarged, and clogged pores. A great way to combat life's beating on our skin is to implement a sound daily/nightly routine that includes cleansing and toning.

Cleansers that are mild, gentle, and non-irritating are recommended. I use hand cut , organic soap sold at Canvas Skin Spa. I use Carrot Ginger, Oatmeal, Lavender, Avocado and Sage on my face.

My preferred toner is Dickinson's WitchHazel, which I steep in fresh lavender, lavender oil, and aloe vera gel for 30 days before using. Another fave is Thayer's Rose Petal & Aloe Witch Hazel. I love Witch Hazel because it removes impurities, seals my pores, and it is non-drying.

Rejuvenate

As a result of the daily wear and tear the skin endures, skin cells can break down and become weak. Exfoliation aides in eliminating dead skin cells, and rejuvenates the skin so that the new cells can breathe. I exfoliate my skin 3-4 times per week, because I naturally have dry skin.

Exfoliators that are nourishing and non-abrasive are recommended. The best exfoliators are made of natural ingredients that we often have around the house. You can whip up a quick, affordable scrub in just minutes.

1/2C Oil (Olive, Grapeseed, Almond, etc.)
1/4C Honey

Another critical component of rejuvenation is hydration. Healthy skin requires daily, constant hydration. The most effective way to hydrate your skin is with water and a moisturizer.

Consuming 8-10 glasses of water each day will ensure that your skin maintains its elasticity, and that it is hydrated.

Moisturizers afford your skin additional hydration, and those that are mild and natural are best for your skin. My current moisturizing regimen is a cocktail that consists of a dime sized amount of aloe vera gel, essential oil of choice, and Aveeno Baby Lavendar Moisturizer. I then follow this with a healthy douse of rose water, which I make from distilled water and 100% rose oil. I repeat this regimen both morning and night.

I have been obsessed with essential oils, and learning as much as I can about their respective properties and benefits as of late. Here is a short list of the oils that I have been using: Jojoba, Rose Hip, Lavender, and Tea Tree. These oils have an extensive number of benefits including antibacterial, reducing scars and fine lines, hydration, and antioxidants. A key to essentials oils is to break them down via carrier oils such as olive, grapeseed, and almond. Essential oils applied directly to the skin can cause irritation ad discomfort. As such, it is best to add a few drops of essential oil to a healthy amount of carrier oil, then apply to skin.

Proper Diet

When it comes to skin, you are what you eat! Your skin is the body's largest organ. As with all other organs, you have to lend proper care and management. A nutritious diet, paired with the regimen outlined above will ensure that your skin is both healthy and radiant.

I overhauled my diet a year ago, and removed all processed, fried, and artificially sweetened foods. I now eat whole foods, and farm to table as much as humanly possible. As a result, my skin is at peak performance.

Dietary supplements can also aide in achieving and maintaining healthy skin. I personally incorporate Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Vitamin E in my daily regimen.

Vitamin C Prevents inflammation and irritation, increases the skin’s ability to defend against UV rays, and affords firmer/tighter skin

Vitamin D Affords soft, youthful, healthy skin, and increases the skin’s healing abilities.

Vitamin E Prevents and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, lines and dark spots.

Makeup

I love makeup just as much as the next gal, but I limit myself to wearing it to just 2-3 days a week. The reason being is that I need my skin to breathe, and I do not want my pores to become clogged from wearing makeup 7 days a week. I wear "skin" the other 3-4 days a week, and I still look good because my skin is flawless.

When I wear makeup I prep my skin with primer to create a barrier between my skin and the products used. I also hydrate with rose water between foundation, concealer, and powder. This helps to keep my skin moisturized while wearing makeup products throughout the day, and it helps those products blend like butter.

I remove my makeup at night with oil free makeup remover, and then proceed with my cleansing, toning, and moisturizing regimen outlined above. Finally, I never re-use dirty brushes because they hold bacteria that causes breakouts. I use a brush once, and then I must clean it before I use it again.

So, get out there and grab all of your supplies…build a consistent regimen, and prepare to take the best selfies of your life! Seriously…..as with anything else in life, consistency is key. I promise you that once you see that good glow push through, you will NEVER miss a beat in your skincare regimen!

Comeback: Clapback & Then Some

It’s been a few weeks since I published a post. Charge it to the game, life, my espresso machine going AWOL, and simply trying to establish my New Normal. I’m just figuring it all out as I go along. Same shit most of y’all are doing!

Anywho...the dust has settled on the holiday season, the New Year has commenced, and by now y’all are out here crushing those goals and resolutions put inTO place a few weeks ago. Me....I’m just trying to stay awake during the business day:)

I didn’t make any New Year resolutions, but I did commit to decluttering all of my stuff (clothes, shoes, bags, makeup and accessories) and organizing it in a way that I could see it. If I can see it, then I can use it!

I did a massive purge of my makeup vanity and found plenty of products that I had forgotten about, which is the most amazing thing ever. It’s like getting something new without the buyer’s remorse. #winning I gave some unopened stuff away to my girlfriends, and made room for some new things I wanted to try.

Now I knew I was all kinds of late to the party on Fenty Beauty. I love Rihanna unconditionally, but I wasn’t knocking chicks down to get her cosmetic collection. I’m fickle about pricey ass products that don’t deliver. So, I opted to go with the Stunna lip paint, after getting a Sephora coupon that I was able to apply towards the luxury product. The lippie turned out to be straight bangin’! It’s a highly pigmented, bright red, non-drying, super matte lipstick. I kid you not that I applied my lip at 6AM before heading into the office, and didn't have to reapply it once throughout the day. I looked up and it was 6PM, and the lip was still in place.

Y’all see me in this here pic being nothing short of a Stunna (pun intended) #flexin so hard giving y’all lip, hair and vegan mink!! I’m unapologetic about my FLY!

A few weeks after I grabbed Stunna, Rih Rih came through with the New-New, and launched another lip collection, Mattemoiselle. This time it was matte lipsticks in a wide range of 14 shades.

In keeping with my commitment to declutter, and not buy duplicate products I scanned through the collection and picked three shades that I didn’t already have. I went with Spanked, Clapback, and Wasabi, because SZA looked like a goddess in the ads).

These lippies claim to be super matte, but they are not as they do transfer throughout the day. I’m not mad at that because I hate drying, matte lips. They wear comfortably for 8+ hours, are extremely pigmented, and hold up pretty damn good in spite of the transfer. I’m obsessed and want more.
